This course is composed of one workbook with 60 tear-out lessons which are divided into two units, and a 141-page teacher's manual that shows a reduced pupil's page and gives detailed teaching instructions for each lesson. Principles for teaching penmanship are given, along with proper posture, pencil holding, and paper placement. Special instructions are given for teaching left-handed students. This course also gives considerable attention to quality in penmanship, which includes slant, alignment, size, proportion, line quality, and spacing.

Unit 1 teaches the stroke formation of each of the cursive small letters and numerals. Pupils learn about birds as they write cursive sentences about them.

Unit 2 teaches the stroke formations of cursive capital letters. More practice sentences about birds further review making cursive capital letters. Writing quality—size, proportion, letter and word spacing, slant, and alignment—is taught in five separate lessons.

Each lesson has practice lines on the back of the tear-out sheet. An optional penmanship tablet of 100 sheets ruled on both sides is also available for any writing practice or assignments. The lines are spaced 1/2" apart with a middle, dashed line to help children properly proportion their letters.
